Included is an excerpt (pp. 299-307) from The American Mercury (mag), 3/1941, headed "A new boss takes Los Angeles," with a summary as follows - "The cafeteria king-maker who captured the city now seems headed for trouble."

    Approx. 30 items: dozens of copies of news stories and editorials mentioning Joseph E. Shaw, Mayor Frank Shaw's brother and secretary. When his brother was recalled by voters in 1938, Joseph Shaw faced legal problems of his own. Joseph died in 1965 at age 76 (obit in folder).
