Williams implies that W. might be a communist dupe. W. replies, "My intentions are to see that the news is printed as factually as...possible."; exchange of letters on Editor & Publisher questionnaire, "...New Directions in Journalism"; exchange of letters with John Wayne related to the film, "The Alamo," Americanism, and other topics; the ups and downs of the Space program ; letter typical of early 1960s from Lee Wright (Canoga Park, 1964) complaining of LAT's shift from conservatism and canceling his subscription; ads taken by opponents of Vietnam war; exchange of letters with James Brady, editor of WWD, in which B. complains that Joyce Haber (LAT) has plagiarized from Women's Wear Daily, W. responds; LAT cookbook; popularity of various LAT segments, including advertising; phosphates in laundry detergent; letter from A. Journalism Chair letter to W. asking his impression of the trend "by politicians, police and the general citizenry to blame the press for rioting and other problems," and W.'s reply; Martin Luther King, Jr.s, marches; etc.

Young, a reader who phoned the paper to comment on a story and had an anonymous staffer made an extremely rude, racist remark to him; a later exchange (1968) when Young was writing for the Los Angeles Sentinel (a Black-owned and operated newspaper); exchange with Leonard Warner about "additional lines" in an LAT story that was picked up and run by the Wash. Post, added w/o the writer's okay--a "no-no" in journalism; material related to Alexander Zinchuck, a high-ranking official of the Soviet Embassy in Wash., DC, 1967; various correspondence on the Middle East situation; exchange of letters with the Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley; the 52-pp. "A-Student" supplement (1969); a letter to W. from Andrew Young, Exec.
