- Description
This series of letters includes correspondents from America, Great Britain, and Europe written to various members of the Kelsey family. The letters cover world events, political issues, local business affairs, and news of friends and family. Jeannette G. W. Kelsey was involved with raising funds for creating a memorial window for the actress Anne Hartley Gilbert and there is a group of letters from 1905 to 1906 with responses to her request for contributions to the memorial. Also, Jeannette came into possession of a group of letters and other material related to the writer and women's rights activist Bessie Rayner Parkes and her daughter Marie Belloc Lowndes; this material includes letters both to-and-from them to various people, often with autograph notes written by Belloc about the contents of the letter or the writer of the letter. Correspondents include, among others, John Murray Brown, Julia Pitt Byrne, Annie Fields, Fola La Follette, Ida Vernon, and Cyrus Woodman. Also included is one box of business-related papers and correspondence for Cadwallader C. Washburn; business and personal papers for the Kelsey family and two folders of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania business-related papers and correspondence.
