A collection of 75 items from 1817? to 1837, it consists of letters written by John Poole; 74 of which were written to James St. Aubyn and one letter was written to Abraham Hayward. The letters discuss the latest theater news and gossip, and Poole offers his opinion about various plays and actors. The letters shed light on the theater of the period, and most of the great actors of the day are mentioned and frequently their performances in specific plays are evaluated by Poole. Poole also wrote to St. Aubyn of some of the legal problems he encountered in producing his own plays. James St. Aubyn (1783-1862), was the eldest of 15 illegitimate children of Sir John St. Aubyn, 5th Baronet; James St. Aubyn was also an avid theater-goer and member of British gentry society. Abraham Hayward (1801-1884) was a British man of letters and leader of British society.

California Orchard Company report to stockholders

The California Orchard Company's report to stockholders discusses the recent growth of trees and vines, orchard plantings, the hay crop, nursery stock, the labor force, expenses and wages, rainfall and irrigation, and finances and stock subscription payments due, and includes condensed balances from the general ledger. There are six black-and-white 5 x 7-inch photographs showing apricot, pear, apple, almond and walnut trees, and lima bean vines, with captions describing plantings and yields. Report is a copy of typescript signed by Carlyle Thorpe, manager, with typed subscription amounts filled in and original photographs mounted on pages. Includes mailing envelope addressed to J.M. Quint, Los Angeles.

Joseph Thorndike ledgers

The collection is made up of five ledgers, which include: 1. Business ledger from Illinois, 1877 to 1897, documenting various business ventures of Thorndike in Illinois, including railroad investments and shipping goods to the American south; 2. Agricultural ledger from Illinois, Minnesota and California, 1882 to 1941, documenting Thorndike's farming ventures in three states; 3. Pasadena Farmer's Club logbook, 1898 to 1905, containing the minutes of the club's meetings (Thorndike was secretary); 4. Sunny Hope Ranch log, 1900 to 1912, documenting Thorndike's daily work on his ranch in Pasadena, with details about his agricultural products, produce, crops, and the Mexican and Asian workers on his ranch, as well as his work as horticultural inspector; and 5. Sunny Hope Ranch log, 1912 to 1921, a continuation of the previous logbook. Most of the ledgers have loose items inside their front and back covers including documents and newspaper clippings.

Ledger book and notes of Commodore Perry Liston and Rosaltha Ovilla Liston Empey

This collection consists of a ledger book kept by Commodore Perry Liston and manuscript notes by Rosaltha Ovilla Liston Empey and Clifford Empey. Inside the ledger book, Liston has recorded baptisms, endowments, and sealings related to the Liston family and has also written a life sketch of himself. It covers his early years as a champion mower on his father's farm to his life in Cedar City and his missionary trips to Arizona and New Mexico. He details various visions he had, including the visions which lead him to take multiple wives, of which he had four. He also talks about mob violence against Mormons and his own personal experience with it.
