Description: A typewritten copy of a legal appeal relating to the 1912 immigration application of Kazunobu Sunouchi; his application was initially denied, but this statement of facts in the appeal shows the willful ignorance and prejudice of the immigration officer (Inspector Farmar) who processed his entry. This appeal to the denied application for entry shows the repeated attempts by Inspector Farmar in purposefully trying to confuse both the Japanese-English interpreter, as well as Kazunobu Sunouchi. The appeal was ultimately successful by clarifying that Sunouchi was not a contract laborer but had a firm job offer from his family; this application appeal was written by Sunouchi's attorney. The pages of this manuscript are becoming brittle and beginning to tear; the final pages are damaged, with some loss of text.

This set of manuscripts documents John Carothers' application to operate a ferry across the Willamette River to Oregon. Included is a petition with signatures of residents of Clackamas County, Oregon, supporting Carothers' application. Dated 1854, June 1 - July 18.

This collection consists of 32 items related to Webster H. Wilkinson's law practice and to a case involving Bakersfield merchant Low Wah, his wife, and his son, Low See Tong, of Guangdong Province, China. Low See Tong was denied entry to the United States twice because his kinship to his father could not be proven. On the second occasion, he was detained at Angel Island for more than three months. The collection includes correspondence, a draft appeal, financial documents, notes, and a letter from Chinese American interpreter Chang Young, who requested a commission for his work on the case and noted his efforts to locate similar cases despite a temporary decline in incoming immigration matters. The correspondence includes letters between Wilkinson; Edward White, Commissioner of Immigration at Angel Island; and Warner Parker, an attorney in Washington, D.C. The collection also includes a case folder labeled "Low."

Two pieces of ephemera relating to Boston University's Sargent Camp; the first is entitled Application for Admission to the Boston University Summer Session in Physical Education at Sargent Camp, Peterborough, N.H.; the other is entitled Room Reservation Form. The application form is dated 1948. Neither form has been completed. Accompanying the two forms is an envelope addressed, in typescript, to "Miss Gladys B. Tarr, 89 Prospect St., Sar15 Gloucester, Mass." The items were laid into a catalog entitled Summer Session in Physical Education at Sargent Camp, (HEH RB# 603429).
