    Logbook of whaling ship from New Bedford to the South Pacific

    Logbook kept by an unidentified person onboard the whaling ship Three Brothers of New Bedford, Massachusetts, captained by James M. Witherell (listed as James L. Witherell in logbook). The generally brief entries date from October 12, 1869 to August 18, 1873 and mention the ship's position, weather, prevailing winds, ships sighted, whales encountered, and some shipboard activity. A few entries mention anchoring and shoreleave but most do not give the location. Some entries appear to be in different hands, with one dated June 18, 1873 including a note regarding an officer's conduct signed by captain J.M. Witherell. Volume is bound and covered in cloth; the inside front cover has an advertising insert for C.R. Sherman & Co. Navigation Store, New Bedford.

    Journal that André kept while aide-de-camp to Charles Grey, from June 11, 1777 to November 15, 1778. There are no entries for the period from Dec. 30, 1777 to June 1778. The journal covers the Philadelphia campaign and its aftemarth, including the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, White Marsh, and Monmouth; British raids in New Bedford (1778, Sept. 5-6) and Martha's Vineyard (1778, Sept. 10-15) and Baylor's massacre at Old Tappan, N.J. (1778, Sept. 27) Also included are returns of troops under the command of Sir William Howe and Henry Clinton.

    This volume contains financial records of rent paid by and paid to Ethan Allen Hitchcock. Some entries are made in a hand other than that of Charles M. Hitchcock. Some pages have been cut out of the final part of the notebook. The date of entries range from 1858 to 1862.

    San Francisco company account book

    Manuscripts

    A brief account book kept by an unidentified San Francisco company that subcontracted for several mining companies in California in the 1860s. The ledger shows segregated payment entries between laborers of different races, represented here by white, Black, and Chinese workers. It also shows entries for printed works done by the noted printer Edward Bosqui. The volume has one tally sheet tipped in and one promise to pay agreement glued in.

    Account book and time book for the Rockdale Mining Company

    The volume contains an account book and time book for the Rockdale Mining Company in Blackhawk, Colorado. The time book, which covers 1864 and 1865, contains the names of employees, hours worked, days worked, and wages earned for several mines including the Leavenworth Gulch, the Calhoun Lode, and the Harsh Lode. The rest of the volume contains financial account information from 1875 to 1881
