Time books of Heslop Ranch, California

These two volumes, both entitled "time of men in field & barn," contain the names of the men who worked on the Heslop ranch. It also includes their time worked and money earned. The majority of the workers are Mexican (the cover of one of the books says "No Chinamen"). The volumes have both English and Spanish in them. One of the volumes has information regarding various types of wine.

This collection contains correspondence, business papers, 16 ledger books, maps and reports of the Consolidated Virginia Mining Company of Virginia City, Nevada, dating from 1876-1955. The 112 rolled maps in collection, dating from 1876 to 1947 document the early period, the general mining district, and other mines and mining claims on the Comstock Lode such as the Ophir mines and the Mexican Gold and Silver Mining Company. One map is signed by Charles Frederick Hoffmann. The collection includes an account book and many letters of Zeb Kendall, president of the firm. San Francisco company account book

A brief account book kept by an unidentified San Francisco company that subcontracted for several mining companies in California in the 1860s. The ledger shows segregated payment entries between laborers of different races, represented here by white, Black, and Chinese workers. It also shows entries for printed works done by the noted printer Edward Bosqui. The volume has one tally sheet tipped in and one promise to pay agreement glued in.
