A journal kept by Harmen Meyndertsz van den Bogaert about an expedition (1634 December 11 - 1635 January 21) to the "Maques" and "Sinnikins" Indians in order to conduct trade negotiations. The journal is in Dutch and is a fair copy in a scribal hand, probably made in 1647; it was once attributed to Arendt van Corlear.

The enclosure is a copy of a 22-page typescript that has been corrected; the typescript includes illustrations and reproductions of handwritten letters.

Georges-Lionel Leclanché, 1838-1882: essay

Essay by Jack Davis (died 1979) describing the life and work of French electrical engineer Georges Leclanché (1839-1882). The fourteen-page typescript chiefly concerns the technical and commercial development of the Leclanché cell , including its patenting and significance, particularly in light of the rising importance of the telephone in the 1870s and 1880s. The essay also discusses Leclanché's childhood, education, and early career as an electrochemical researcher, and Leclanché's other achievements, including a design for the extraction of lead from its ores; work on the hydrogen spectrum; and patents for the recovery of silver and gold from photographic residues, for an air chronometer, and for applying electricity to lighting. Also includes letter of transmittal to and acknowledgment from Bern Dibner, dated 1966, December 5 and December 9.

The essay traces the origins and development of Wight's Mormon community in Texas from its founding in 1846 through Wight's death in 1858. The typescript is in German, with corrections and emendations by the author in German and marginal annotations by an unidentified person in English. One annotation in English is signed by an unidentified editor at the publisher, Taylor & Francis.
