A closely written, extensive and detailed volume recording Thomas Mort's expenditures on virtually every aspect of his life: food, other provisions, clothing and accessories, household furnishings and repairs, servants' wages, tips, book purchases (both for his own library at Dam House and nearly 250 theological works for the vicarage at Astley), gifts to a large family and to the local poor, other charitable donations (especially for local churches and churchmen). The explanations are so meticulously detailed that the volume takes on the character of a diary for Mort and his family and neighbors and for the everyday life of a local community.

Elisabeth Broadbent's account book of her expenditure on clothes, shoes and jewelery; including her particularly heavy expenditure in 1771 for wedding clothes. Evidently keen to follow the latest fashions, Elisabeth Broadbent makes do, having her dresses dyed and mended, shoes recovered, etc. Original wallet-style vellum with fold-over flap, brass fastener with leaf engraving, 15 x 11 cm., 60 pages with additional blank pages lined but not used.

Account book recording expenditure on the building of Newgate prison in Bristol, 1690-1693

This manuscript account book records expenditure during the course of the building of the Newgate prison in Bristol. A special levy of sixpence was imposed on Bristol householders to cover the cost of the building works. The monies collected from different parishes are recorded here, together with details of loans from different private citizens. The volume includes a record of individually itemized expenditure on all manner of building materials including lime, timber, marble and nails, as well as lists of artisans and laborers, among them lime burners, masons, plumbers, carvers and others.

This account book contains the expenses of building and outfitting the ship, a list of the owners with their shares, recorded receipts and expenditures, and dividends paid to the owners. In the volume is a letter (1865, March 10) regarding payment of dividends to the ship's owners.

Dixon Green Colliery account book

Account book recording payments relating to colliery expenditures between January 1779 and January 1782. The book records payments for wages, access by land and water canals to the mines, repairing old channels and cutting new ones, etc. There are numerous names recorded of the various workmen.
