Most of Farquhar's diaries, which are arranged, chronologically, include his daily activities but also include reminiscences about his life and family history and musings on a variety of topics. There is one "Account Book and Memo Book" from 1902 to 1907 and one "Journal" which includes Farquhar's memories of his life (it includes no daily entries). His earlier diaries (1906-1911) were written while he was living in Washington; the later diaries were written while he was living in California. In his diaries Farquhar also talks about the attack on Pearl Harbor, World War II, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, his brother-in-law Rear Admiral William R. Furlong, the bombing of Hiroshima and Japan's surrender. Many of the volumes have loose clippings with them, the majority of which are obituaries for people Farquhar knew. The manuscripts include copies of several of his writings including '49, And what of the years?, and History of Livingston, California. These books deal with early California pioneer history, the Gold Rush, and the Chinese in California. There are also two manuscripts regarding the genealogy of the Burgess and Farquhar families. These manuscripts, which are arranged alphabetically by title, are all carbon copies with Farquhar's handwritten edits.

This report was compiled by the California State Board of Health on order of Los Angeles Mayor George E. Cryer. It reports on cases of plague in Los Angeles from November 1924 to June 1925. It contains details on individual cases including autopsies, reports from Los Angeles hospitals about cases of plague, animal trapping and poisoning information, medical inspections, and eradication and disinfection efforts. The report also contains several illustrations, black and white photographs and maps. The report includes a table of contents, a preliminary report on bubonic cases, an appendix on rodent plague, Lenert's Report on Harbor District, a Final Report and a copy of Ordinance No. 50,282, "providing sanitary regulations for the protection of public health in the City of Los Angeles." There are copies of letters by Mayor Cryer and the California State Board of Health Secretary and Executive Officer, Dr. Walter M. Dickie. The volume was a gift from Dr. Allen F. Gillihan to the Los Angeles County Medical Association in January 1926.

This report, written on the anniversary of the Battle of Falkirk, argues the position that Scotland should be self-governing. The unknown author writes about the history of England and Scotland, the Battle of Falkirk, William Wallace, Sir John De Graham, and Edward I. It could possibly be by a member of the Scottish Home Rule Association.

This report, done by Dr. Jeffries, was done for the city of Boston and is the result of testing done by the doctor in the public schools of Boston. This copy is incomplete and it ends mid-sentence on the 12th page. On the cover is a handwritten note: "Prof. John Tyndal [sic] with the Compliments of the Author."

An extensively annotated extra-illustrated work in two volumes: a chemist's working copy of a significant treatise on the development of chemical procedures of dyeing textiles. Volume 1 contains 544 pages with 39 textile samples; volume 2 contains 646 pages with one folded engraving, illustrations, and 34 textile samples. Both volumes contain annotations on separate sheets, with some intertextual annotations as well. In addition, there are twelve cloth samples of indigo dyeing, with detailed manuscript notes on the samples, which are unique to this copy of the work by Schützenberger. The volumes are bound with contemporary calf spines, marbled paper boards; there is some foxing and slight staining on a small number of pages.

There are 376 pieces of manuscripts, the majority of which are by Olive Percival. The manuscripts comprise of biographical sketches, diaries, notebooks, poems, short stories, typescripts, and miscellaneous notes. There are 122 pieces of correspondence, the majority of which are by Ellen Dame Terry writing to Anna Held. It is arranged alphabetically then by date. Correspondence relating to Olive Percival mainly concerns letters from her friends and publisher. There are 341 pieces of ephemera. It is arranged by type and subject, and consists of an appointment book, bookmarks, bookplates, bulletins, empty envelopes, fliers, invoices, legal documents, military records, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, excerpts of periodicals, receipts, scrapbooks, tracts, and miscellaneous United States permits and a passport. The majority of the ephemera relates to Sheffield, Illinois, where Olive Percival was born.
