Report on safety of water supply dams and reservoirs of the city of Los Angeles

This report, which was compiled by the Engineering Department of the Bureau of Water Works & Supply, was presented to the mayor and city council of Los Angeles by A. J. Wiley, F. C. Herrmann, and Charles H. Paul. The report is an investigation into the safety of water reservoirs and dams in Los Angeles. It includes a survey and map of 29 different reservoirs and dams throughout the city. The report also includes an appendix by F. L. Ransome regarding the geological conditions at the Mulholland Dam; the appendix includes a map and photographs.

These items, which are copies of bulletins, reports, letters, statements and speeches, all deal with the merger of the Los Angeles city's Department of Health and Los Angeles County's Health Department. A majority of the items were written by C. Erwin Piper, Los Angeles City Administrative Officer. Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty is mentioned in some of the documents. Other participants include several physicians including Lewis T. Bullock, Lenor S. Goerke, and Lyndon S. Hollinger. There are also four newspaper clippings.

The collection contains letters, documents, manuscripts, photographs and ephemera related to the life and career of Los Angeles mayor and Superior Court judge Fletcher Bowron. It includes official correspondence kept during Bowron's term as mayor of Los Angeles, reports, and information on his election campaigns. There is also source material gathered for his Metropolitan Los Angeles History Project, particularly in the fields of public housing, city planning, and transportation. In the addenda there are 38 bound volumes containing addresses by Mayor Bowron from September 1938 to July 1953 as well as oversize awards, albums and maps.

This ledger contains 724 pages of cases heard by Los Angeles City Justice H. C. Austin from February 15 to June 15, 1887. The majority of the cases are misdemeanors, petty crime, assault and battery, burglary, disturbing the peace, and drunk and disorderly conduct. The entries include name of the defendant and attorney and the details of the case. Sometimes the entries give the results of the case, such as a fine being paid, etc.
