  Typescript of George A. Smith's journal, kept during his travels from Great Salt Lake City to Iron County from 1850-1851. Includes a description of Smith's travels, including references to camping at Dry Creek, Utah, with John Doyle Lee; a stop at Fort Provo with a full report of provisions; the exchange of a dead ox for an Indian boy; and Captain Jefferson Hunt's joining the party on his return trip from California. Smith also reports on the camp at Parowan, including the building of Parowan Hall, a mill, and various cabins. Smith writes of a letter he wrote to President Millard Fillmore requesting a military post on the Muddy River and notes that "we are a military people and must be...we want a military organization for Iron County." References are made in the journal to Amasa Lyman, Anson Call, Henry Lunt, Brother Shirts, Simon Baker, and Hew Whitney ("the first native white citizen in Iron County").

  This is a typescript made from the original owned by Mrs. Nora Jarvis of Saint George, Utah. It is an autobiography written by George Albert Smith (1817-1875) and covers the time period from his birth in 1817 to his missionary work in England in 1840. Smith writes of his childhood in New York; his first introduction to Mormonism and his subsequent conversion; his service in Zion's Camp and role as one of Joseph Smith's bodyguards; and his work in preaching the gospel, including details of his travels to Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and England, as well as descriptions of the persecutions he and his fellow Mormons experienced in their efforts.

  The letter book is comprised of both social and business letters written by Henry Sevier. In most of the business letters, Sevier is searching for employment as a bookkeeper. Sevier goes back and forth between Sacramento, San Francisco, and Eureka, California. The social letters are to his family and his fiancé Jesse, whom he marries in March 1879. Unfortunately, many of the letters are illegible.

  Microfilm of the diaries of Azariah Smith, covering the years from 1846-1912. The first volume opens with some brief autobiographical information on his family's life in Nauvoo and persecutions against the Mormons in Missouri. The journal begins in 1846 and covers Smith's time with the Mormon Battalion, his arrival in Salt Lake City in 1848, and a daily record of his life in Salt Lake, the Sanpete Valley, Ephraim, Provo, and primarily Manti through 1887 (page 224 includes a sketch of Smith's homestead). Following the diary are some loose notes and diary pages, a marriage certificate for Smith and Sevilla Mitchell (1903), some genealogical notes, and a list of names of women sealed to Smith. The second diary volume covers Smith's life in Manti from 1888-1912.
