    Notebook compiled by J.W. Mandeville, including written descriptions of California ranchos, their histories, geographic features, and handrawn maps. Ranchos and geographic areas described include Laguna de San Antonio, Roblar de la Miseria, Arroyo Seco (Alameda County), Rincon de Musalacon, Tzabaco Rancho, Rancho San Antonio (Peralta), Rancho San Leandro, Rancho San Lorenzo, Rancho Arroyo de la Alameda, Rancho los Tulareitos, and Rancho del Agua Caliente. The back of the book contains what appear to be student exercises and notes, including poetry, recipes for gunpowder and ink, and notes on the preservation and taxidermy of birds. These notes are in a variety of handwritings and dated 1876-1904.

Included are files related to John Janney's several properties and interests, most of which were in Lincoln County, Nevada, including the Ely Valley Mines, Mountain View Hotel, Pioche Mines Company, Pioche Power and Light Company, and Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company. This collection exists as an extensive and rich documentation of Nevada mining, especially during the Great Depression and World War II.
