Proudfit is writing in reply to a letter from Turner, and notes that he was glad to hear that turned had started a night school, even though attendance was low.The letter is on "From the Rooms of the Bureau of Information" letterhead, and includes a three-sided printed sheet with information on the Los Angeles area, including a map of Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties.

    Earle R. Forrest letter to Leslie Bliss

    Manuscripts

    In this letter on Earle Forrest's personal letterhead, he describes going through the Washington Pennsylvania Reporter's 1897 file and finding an interview given by James Kuntz Sr., titled: Was a forty-niner. Forrest relates that James Kuntz Sr. was a member of the first party that left the county for the Californhia gold fields in 1849. He thought the typescript might be of interest to Bliss. Forrest also recalls that as a boy he remembered Kuntz and was associated with him because his uncle married Kuntz's niece. Forrest also mentions that he was notified that the manuscript of his book California Joe had arrived. A postscript gives further biogrphical information on James Kuntz Sr.

    John P. Nicholson letter to James Grant Wilson

    Manuscripts

    A carbon copy, typewritten letter, with typed signature, from John P. Nicholson to James G. Wilson concerning a request from Mrs. Lambert for information about her husband William H. Lambert. The letter is written on the letterhead of "Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States" from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. William H. Lambert (1842-1912) was the manager of the New York Mutual Life Insurance Company as well as the first president of the Lincoln Fellowship and an avid Abraham Lincoln collector. The letter is accompanied by three items: a typewritten list of the societies and institutions of which William H. Lambert was a member; a typewritten list of books and other publications written by Lambert; and a printed pamphlet of a letter from Lambert giving an account of the damage to his Lincoln collection that resulted from a fire at his residence.
