The collection consists of the 1849 sea voyage diary of Arthur Mercein Ebbets (121 pages) and supplementary material, including six letters by Charlotte White Penniman Ebbets, written during her 1853 voyage on the steamer Tennessee (which ran aground near San Francisco); 14 folders of biographical manuscripts about Arthur written by Charlotte Penniman Ebbets; other family manuscripts; and correspondence of Rosario Curletti regarding the diary and letters. Nineteen pages of pencil drawings by Arthur Ebbets, depicting scenes from his voyage, accompany the diary.

The collection consists of three miscellaneous manuscripts by Bryce; the majority of the correspondence are letters written by Bryce to various addressees in the political, social, and literary worlds of England and America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The letters deal with personal, political and business/publishing matters and the addressees include: Richard Everard Webster (Viscount Alverstone), Sabine Baring-Gould, Anne Cobden-Sanderson, William Gibbs McAdoo, George Foster Peabody, William H. Rideing, Harold Felix Baker Wheeler, and Lucien Wolf. This series also includes two Colonial-era documents signed by Thomas Pownall, Governor of Massachusetts (1757-1760), and one folder of ephemera containing a printed engraving and a printed photograph of Bryce.

It is possible this Miscellany collection was assembled by Schutz as part of his own research as an historian, as well as the letters and documents collected as autographs for his interest as a collector; the material covers a wide range of years, authors and subjects: Ephemera, Correspondence and Documents are arranged chronologically in Box 1: 1693-1865, and Box 2: 1866-1959. The material includes one piece of printed Ephemera (1693); the early American manuscript material includes correspondence and documents by William Burnet, Thomas Hutchinson, Thomas Pownall, and William Shirley. The 19th century material includes correspondence and documents related to, among others, the American and British politicians and historians, George Bancroft, John Bright, Richard Cobden, John Davis, Charles William Eliot, Henry Hallam, Anthony Ashley Cooper (Earl of Shaftesbury), Robert Cecil (Marquess of Salisbury), and Robert Winthrop. The 20th century material includes correspondence by Charles Edward Chapman, Joseph Hodges Choate, Max Farrand, Hiram Johnson, Louis Knott Koontz, Robert Andrews Millikan, Frederic Lgan Paxson, and Frederick jackson Turner.
