    Angus G. McAllister letters to Agnes McArdle

    A series of letters written by Angus McAllister after he relocated from California to the small community of Paisley, in south central Lake County, Oregon. The letters are written to his future wife, Agnes McArdle, who was living in Tuolumne County, California. In the letters, McAllister writes about the variety of jobs he is doing (hauling lumber, ranching, cattle driving), weather, town dances, memories of his Tuolumne friends, and his desire to return to Agnes.

    Microfilm of the diary of Daniel H. McAllister, kept from 1876-1877 while he was traveling between Utah and Arizona. The volume opens with a brief autobiography, including McAllister's decision to travel to Arizona in 1876. He records in detail his journey from Salt Lake City to Pima County. Once in Arizona his entries focus on daily activities such as digging ditches, cutting timber, agricultural work, and attending meetings. Later entries also cover his 1877 visit to Utah, including stops in Salt Lake City and St. George.

    Microfilm of a diary and account book of Joseph Warrington McAllister, kept at Glendale and Salt Lake City from 1882-1885. The volume opens with co-op accounts for individuals and institutions, including the Glendale Trustees and Night School, in Glendale from 1882-1883. It also includes miscellaneous accounts kept from 1884-1885.The second half of the volume consists of McAllister's 1882-1884 diary, which commences with his move from Kanab to Glendale to teach school. McAllister writes of his life in Glendale, his attendance of meetings at Orderville, his move to Salt Lake City in 1883, and working in the Salt Lake Temple through 1884. Portions of the diary appear to be in pencil and may be partially illegible.
