Byron Ludwell Taylor letter to Captain B. F. Wiems

In this letter, Taylor is requesting a furlough for Private L. Fitzgerald of his company. Accompanying the letter is an 1897 issue of The east Texas pinery, which contains an article about the 4th Texas Cavalry Regiment, Byron Ludwell Taylor, Captain J. M. Crosson, and the battles of Glorieta and Valverde, New Mexico. Also with the letter is a fragment of an additional letter by Taylor.

This map shows the course of the voyage from England to Valparaíso from January to April 1848 and the return trip made from February to May 1851. The western coastlines of England, Ireland, France, Spain, and Africa and the east and west coastlines of South America are shown.

Merchant ship Beaver captain letters to his wife

These lengthy letters provide details of an American merchant ship's voyage along the west coast of South America (Chile and Peru) from 1817 to 1820. Written by the captain, the letters describe trade, ports of call, and some information on the wars for independence. The letters contain detailed descriptions of Concepción, Chile; Lima, Peru; and Santiago, and Valparaíso, Chile. First letter is 28 pages and the second letter is 52 pages.

Hole's logbook kept as First Lieutenant on the Revenge from May through December 1805, recording both mundane details of sailing instructions, wind, weather, discipline, provisioning, and refitting, and entries made during the Battle of Trafalgar itself on October 21, 1805, including the receipt of Nelson's famous signal "England Expects that Every Man will do his Duty."

Record of a voyage to the Orient in 1918

Kinney's journal starts the day he leaves California and ends the day he gets back four months later. In it, he includes details about his work on board the ship, the daily inspections, the conditions on the ocean, the meals he has, and the various stops along the route including: Hawaii, Japan, China, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. Kinney gives detailed descriptions of Honolulu, Hawaii; Tokyo and Kobe, Japan; Shanghai, China; Manila, Philippines; and Hong Kong. The typed journal includes photocopies of pages from Kinney's original diary, photographs, maps, advertisements, menus, passenger lists, and various other things he collected during his voyage.

Chart of temperature readings at Fort Yuma

This manuscript is a hand-written chart of thermometer readings at Fort Yuma, California, for the dates June 1 through August 31, 1853. Readings were taken each day at sunrise, 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Daily and monthly means were also calculated and entered. Facsimile from loaned original.
