    San Francisco company account book

    Manuscripts

    A brief account book kept by an unidentified San Francisco company that subcontracted for several mining companies in California in the 1860s. The ledger shows segregated payment entries between laborers of different races, represented here by white, Black, and Chinese workers. It also shows entries for printed works done by the noted printer Edward Bosqui. The volume has one tally sheet tipped in and one promise to pay agreement glued in.

    The Diaries/Account Books series consists of holographic account books and diaries kept by Sproston and/or his clients from 1856-1879. The Correspondence series (ca.1875-1883) includes business and personal letters that Sproston received and sent to others. The series also includes correspondence between clients and a small amount of letters that are addressed to Mary E. Sproston. The Legal Documents series is divided into three subseries: Financial Records, Indentures, and Stock Certificates. The Financial Records subseries ranges from 1868 to 1885 and includes receipts, account statements, billheads, checks, and money orders in regards to the estate of F. J. (Frances Joseph) Hammell, a client of Sproston. The subseries also includes receipts regarding the tuition payment of Hannah Sproston's education and room and board, as well as a receipt verifying the payment of Sproston's life insurance policy.

    Thomas T. Eckert manuscript account book

    Manuscripts

    Small pocket diary (Cambridgeport, Mass: Denton & Wood.), with Eckert's daily accounts for the year 1863. Included are: records of Eckert's personal income and expenses, the latter covering lodging at Willard's Hotel, newspapers, cigars, drinks, clothing, presents, etc. Also included are payments for photographs: on January 1, 1863, he "sat for my likeness at Brady's;" on February 14, there is a record of payment to the Brady studio for a photograph of Albert V. Colburn. There are also miscellaneous records of accounts with Jeptha H. Wade, Anson Stager, George B. McClellan, and others.

    Account book and time book for the Rockdale Mining Company

    The volume contains an account book and time book for the Rockdale Mining Company in Blackhawk, Colorado. The time book, which covers 1864 and 1865, contains the names of employees, hours worked, days worked, and wages earned for several mines including the Leavenworth Gulch, the Calhoun Lode, and the Harsh Lode. The rest of the volume contains financial account information from 1875 to 1881
