A collection of personal correspondence of Christian T. Christensen, chiefly letters addressed to him. Included are letters received by Christensen on the occasion of his retirement from the Army in June 1865, a few official communications and personal letters received by Christensen during his war service, and a telegram from James T. Holtzclaw negotiating the surrender of Mobile, Alabama (April 1865). The post-war correspondence includes letters from Eunice Ward Beecher and Henry Ward Beecher, Lyman Abbott, William Tecumseh Sherman, and others, chiefly concerning his charity work and Civil War experience. Also included are Christensen's military commissions and other documents, an address entitled "Women's influence" that Christensen delivered at the Working Women's Club on November 10, 1887, and a letter soliciting donations for the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute signed by Booker T. Washington (1904).

Arvid T. Johnson Papers

The collection contains correspondence and ephemera. The Correspondence series is arranged alphabetically by author and predominantly contains letters from Arvid T. Johnson to his then-girlfriend Louise Harris Johnson during World War I. The letters include discussions of how much he misses her, his experiences doing laundry and dental work, troop entertainment, and his observations about Germany. Additionally, there are letters regarding Johnson's academic career and letters from Cassius W. Harris (Louise's brother) to his family members during World War II. Most of the original envelopes are included with the letters. The Ephemera series is arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically within each folder. It contains Johnson's address book, Cassius W. Harris' Bible, empty envelopes, event programs, funeral announcements, government identifications, a marriage certificate, Cassius W. Harris' report book, newspaper clippings, a photo album and photographs. The photo album includes photographs from the home front as well as Johnson's pictures of Europe and his friends during the war.

Military and professional papers of Lewis T. Pim, chiefly special orders, commissions, communications, circulars, etc., with a few personal letters, documenting his Civil War and post-war career. Correspondents include John C. Breckenridge, Simon Bolivar Buckner, D. H. Maury, G.T. Beauregard, and J. E. Johnston. The correspondence also includes letters from Edwin Samuel Gaillard (1827-1885), a fellow Confederate veteran and the dean of Louisville Medical College.
