The collection consists of documents and letters related to California land cases involving the law firm of Halleck, Peachy & Billings. The major part of the collection consists of legal documents written chiefly by Henry W. Halleck relating to the California land cases-copies of land titles, drafts of briefs, and opinions used in establishing the legal titles of some 36 different land grants. Blotter B: District record of land grants and deeds in the city of San Francisco
Manuscripts
The blotter includes land grants and deeds processed in San Francisco District from 1847 to 1849. The grants and deeds are signed by alcaldes George Hyde and Thaddeus Leavenworth. The list includes deeds involving Sam Brannan, John White Geary, Thomas Ap Catesby Jones, William A. Leidesdorff, Robert T. Ridley, and J. D. Stevenson. Some of the entries are accompanied by hand drawn plats.

Lease agreement between John Forster and T. A. Case for a parcel of land in San Diego County

The collection is arranged chronologically and consists primarily of legal documents pertaining to real estate transactions in and around San Jan Capistrano, Los Angeles, and San Diego in the late nineteenth century. The collection also includes records of land grants made by the U.S. government to individuals in the southern California area. Documents include grants, land patents, deeds, indentures, mortgages, leases, and a few court documents.

Eusebio Francisco Kino letters

The collection consists of letters, chiefly written in Spanish by Eusebio Francisco Kino (1644-1711) and addressed to Maria Guadalupe de Lencastre, duquesa de Aveiro (1630-1715) concerning Kino's experiences in exploring and establishing missions in Baja California (1683-85) and in Sonora (1686-87).
