  Microfilm of a pocket diary kept by Thomas L. Kane from January-May 1858. A notation inside the front cover states that it "contains confidential entries for my dear wife." The diary opens when Kane is at sea, sailing from Philadelphia to Aspinwall, Panama. Once there he describes the native people and his impressions of Panama from the sea. While continuing on to California, Kane writes of his constant sea sickness and dislike of ocean travel, of constellations he as observed (with illustrations), and of talking onboard with "California miners, drovers, and adventurers." He then writes of his arrival in and observations of San Francisco, of traveling to Utah, and of some experiences in the Salt Lake Valley. Portions of the diary are very faint and partially illegible.

  Diary and autobiography of Samuel Hollister Rogers [microform] : approximately 1843-1885

  Manuscripts

  Microfilm of the two-volume autobiography and diary of Samuel Hollister Rogers, kept from approximately 1843-1885. The first volume opens with an autobiographical account of Rogers's early life in Ohio, along with extensive family history and anecdotes. The diary portions of the volume cover his mission trip to New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania in 1843-1844; his experiences in Iowa in 1845-1846; and his time with the Mormon Battalion from 1846-1848. The second volume includes diary entries sketching his life in Parowan and St. George from 1855-1881 and in Snowflake from 1881-1885.

  Diary and autobiography of William Huntington

  Manuscripts

  Typescript of William Huntington's autobiography and diary. The autobiography focuses on his conversion to Mormonism in the 1830s, and also traces his family's movements through Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa. The diary entries commence around May 1841, although they may have been written after that time as part of the autobiography, and conclude on June 1, 1845. Some topics mentioned by Huntington include the Nauvoo Legion, the arrival of Sidney Rigdon in Nauvoo, the departure of troops from Nauvoo to "arrest the murder[er]s of Joseph and Hyrum Smith," his work on the Nauvoo Temple, and family news.

  Microfilm of a typescript of an autobiography and diary entries made by Perrigrine Sessions. The autobiography and diaries include a detailed family history, an account of his conversion to Mormonism, an account of his travels to Far West, an account of mob violence against Mormons, and account of his move to Nauvoo, a partial diary kept during a mission to Maine in 1839-1840 and again in about 1844, an account of leaving Illinois and traveling overland to Utah in 1847, and account of traveling back overland to Iowa in 1850, diary entries of his British mission in 1852-1854, diary entries made in Utah in 1855, diary entries of a mission in Maine in 1873, and diary entries made in Utah in 1876.

  Diaries of Thomas Judd [microform] : 1876-1908

  Manuscripts

  Microfilm of the diaries of Thomas Judd, covering the years 1876-1878 and 1906-1908. The first two diaries, dated 1876-1877 and 1877-1878, cover Judd's mission to Britain. The 1906 diary covers Judd's activities in La Verkin, his business trips around Washington County, and a trip to Las Vegas and California, including Los Angeles, Pasadena, several beaches, and Santa Catalina Island (where he took a glass bottom boat ride). The 1907 diary describes a second trip to California, including San Francisco, as well as Utah business activities, and the 1908 diary traces Judd's sea voyage from New York to Los Angeles. Portions of the diary are very faint and may be partially illegible.
