    Documents regarding mining in California

    These five manuscripts deal largely with mining practices in California. HM 16583 is a letter to Fray Vicente de Mora, dated March 14, 1775, and is undersigned by several missionaries. HM 16584 (May 29, 1775) contains instructions regarding a decree regulating the prices of goods such as silver and gold. HM 16585-16587 (dated July 26 and November 17, 1780 and March 1, 1781) are letters to Joaquín Cañete that discuss details of mining.

    This set of four letters deals with various aspects of administration of the Spanish colonies of New Spain, including the missions. HM 16573 and HM 16574 (which also contain photograph facsimiles) are addressed to Felipe Barri, and dated November 30, 1771 and June 4, 1772.     This group of manuscripts concerns the Dominicans in the Philippine Islands. HM 19398, dated circa 1768, is a letter from Miguel Serrano to the President of the Philippines, regarding the Dominicans. HM 19399 (dated circa 1770), contains regulations laid down by the Roman Catholic Church concerning religious practices for Spanish natives. HM 19400 (dated 1772, January 13) is a letter from Bishop Miguel García relaying instructions for the denial and postponement of absolution. HM 19401 (circa 1775) describes the process for whitening wax and making candles. HM 19402 (circa 1775) concerns fresco and oil painting. HM 19403 (circa 1775) has instructions for processing natural indigo. HM 19404 (circa 1775) has a recipe for making rice wine. HM 19405 (dated circa 1793) is a sample account of the revenues of a church and parish between the years 1788-1792. In Spanish.
