    Perkins is ready to accept Logue's proposal "without any more talk" and hopes he "will be more prosperous in the years to come" for his "perseverance deserves to be rewarded." All Logue must do is pay the $500 principal, which Perkins advises him to do.

    George C. Perkins letter to Charles S. Randall

    Manuscripts

    Perkins responds to Randall's prior inquiry on the land of San Joaquin County and the Hutch-Armstrong Company. He states that "some of the soil is equal in value to that in any part of California and some of it is not worth $1 an acre, but generally speaking it is one of the best counties in the State," and that the county is home to the town of Stockton, "the fourth largest city in the State." He describes the Hutch-Armstrong company as owning a number of fruit ranches in California. On letterhead of the United States Senate.

    Civil War letters of Ransom Allen Perkins

    Letters that Perkins wrote home from Camp Harris, Md. (1861, Dec. 7), Hagerstown, Md. (1862, Aug. 27), Alexandria, Va. (1862, Sept. 28), Fairfax Court House, Va. (1863, Jan. 21), Stevensburg, Va. (1864, Apr. 24), Chancellorville, Va. (1864, May 14), and Bridgewater, Va. (1864, Oct. 2). The long, detailed letters describe the battles of Antietam and Spottsylvania Court House, recount news of the Union and Confederate military operations, discuss camp life, regimental news and recruiting, and depict tensions between the Union troops and local "secessionist citizens."

    Alice D. Perkins travel scrabooks of trips to Colorado, California and Mexico

    Manuscripts

    The scrapbook covers two trips, by train, that Perkins took with Raymond-Whitcomb, Inc. The first is a trip to Colorado and California in 1882 and the second is a trip to Mexico in 1888. The first excursion made stops at Pueblo and Denver, Colorado; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, and Yosemite National Park, California. The second excursion made stops at Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Quéretaro, and Mexico City, Mexico. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, brochures, pamphlets, postcards, as well as a "Pocket Guide to Mexico," and "Brief Guide to Mexico City." There is also a handwritten reminiscence of the excursions written by Perkins' granddaughter in 1920.

    George C. (George Clement) Perkins letter to Lawrence F. Bower

    Manuscripts

    Perkins apologizes for the delay in addressing Mr. Bower's request, but he has been "greatly pressed with business by reason of the long sessions of the Senate." He hopes that Mr. Bower will accept the enclosed photograph. No photograph is included.
