Domingo Faustino Sarmiento letters to Benjamin Apthorp Gould

In these letters to Gould, an American astronomer who founded the Argentine National Observatory and National Weather Service, Sarmiento discusses details of astronomy and of the Observatory. He also writes of political details, requests to be sent new and recent books on American foreign and domenstic policy, and is pleased to collaborate with Gould. HM 82606 - Brewings notebook, Sept. - Decr. 1781. Contemporary limp reversed calf covers; fragile manuscript paper label secured to front cover with wax. Initialed and dated by Barclay. 8x12 cm., 92 pages; laid into volume manuscript page titled "Example" with "Brewed..." on verso. Notebook tabulates the brewery's production on a daily basis from Sept. to Dec. 1781; recording volumes and temperatures for each of the mashing stages and also includes a plan for the daily timings of these processes over several days.
