    Includes an item from 1761. Attributed to Thomas Sheridan as a response to Jonathan Swift's "Irish Eloquences in Sir Walter Scott. Works of Jonathan Swift (1824), vol. VII, p. 154. George Mayhew identifies it as being in the hand of Deane Swift, ca. 1761 (Mayhew, Rage or Raillery, page 180).

Signed: Punch cum sociis; sometimes attributed, erroneously, to Swift and to Sheridan. Handwritten annotation below title, "written upon Secretary Hopkins refusing to let Stretch act without a large Sum of money."

    Poem in 7 stanzas of 4 lines each. Followed by Swift in 4 stanzas of 4 lines each, "The Beau's reply to the five Ladyes Answer" (A.Ms. 1 p.). Endorsed twice by Swift: "Sher[id]an. 5 Ladyes answer to the Beau" and "Sheridans answer to the Beau, and the Beau's reply."
