The spine and front cover contain the English title "In the Spring;" the manuscript is bound in red morocco gilt and there is slight damage to the spine. Also included are various autograph notes and musical pieces originally laid into the volume.

    Plates 34-36, 53 etched 1789; plates 29-33, 37-52 etched 1794. Plates disbound and separately mounted in preservation mats. Former binding preserved: Full maroon morocco, gilt frames on covers, and stamped in gilt on spine. The hand numbering by Blake (in ink in upper right corners), seem to indicate that the plates were separated from a numbered copy of "Songs of Innocence"

    A bound music manuscript with score and words, bound in red morocco gilt; the manuscript was not composed by Rousseau but only copied out and illustrated by him. Laid into the volume are a page from the sale catalogue and a letter from J. Pearson and Company, Rare Books and Autographs, to Messers. B. F. Stevens and Brown (March 25, 1902); the letter provides provenance for the volume and states it was written by Rousseau for presentation to his patron, the Marquis de Girardin, whose arms are on the binding.

    Ballo: musical scores

    Manuscripts

    A set of six autograph instrumental musical scores; with paper covers and bound loosely with thread. The scores are titled: Ballo; Cassa; Oboe; Ofleide; Timpani; and 2nd Tromba; the Ballo was an Italian dance form during the 15th century, a Cassa is a bass drum and a Ofleide is a wind instrument. The front cover of the first score also contains the titles: "un villino conteso" and "Il casino di campagna" on separate lines but does not contain the name of a composer or date of composition; the autograph scores have annotations and corrections in Italian using black, blue, green, and red pencil.

    A bound manuscript of a musical score, with words, composed by Orlando Gibbons; with printed portrait of Gibbons mounted on fly-leaf. The manuscript breaks off in the thirteeth piece and was probably wirtten in the 18th century; bound in brown calf.

    John Adams speech to the King of England :

    Draft of John Adams's speech on the occasion of presenting of his letter of credence to George III on June 1, 1785. With a note by James G. Palfrey dated January 7, 1854, attesting that the manuscript "was given to me on this day by his grandson, Charles Francis Adams." Includes engraved portrait of John Adams, approximately 1830-1833; "drawn & printed by Childs & Inman, Philadelphia" and "Pub'd by Peabody & Co., New York." Speech is hinged to mounting paper; bound in full green Morocco; gilt stamped cover and spine. Cover title: "John Adams. Holograph Manuscript of his Speech on Being Presented to the King of England as American Ambassador. 1785." Spine title: "John Adams. Original Manuscript."
