    Manuscripts

    The collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence by and to Eugene Field (1850-1895). The manuscripts are mostly autograph copies of Field's own poems. The collection also contains 33 letters from Eugene Field to his wife, Julia Sutherland Comstock Field (b. 1857). These letters date from both before and after their marriage in 1873, and many are from Eugene Field's trip to Europe in 1873. The collection also contains letters written to Eugene Field, including one letter from Edward David Cowen, one from Hildegarde Hawthorne, and two letters from Washington Irving Way. There is also one letter in the collection from Eugene Field to Julian Hawthorne.

    The collection consists of letters from various English artists, mostly members of either the Royal Academy or the Old Water-Colour Society, primarily addressed to Edwin W. Field or his son, Walter Field (also an artist). A few of the letters concern Field's attempts to establish an artistic copyright law. The collection includes two letters from George Cruikshank, one letter from Sir John Everett Millais, and three letters from Samuel Cousins.

    Collection of letters from various artists, mostly addressed to Edwin Wilkins Field, with some addressed to his son Walter Field who was also an artist. A few of the letters concern Field's efforts to pass some kind of measure ensuring artistic copyright. Most of the letters are from members of either the Royal Academy or the Old Water-Colour Society. Among the correspondents are: 2 letters from George Cruikshank.     Stephen J. (Stephen Johnson) Field receipts to Charles Covilland

    These two manuscripts are receipts written by Stephen J. Field acknowledging payment received from Charles Covilland. The first receipt (HM 43202) is dated 1856, May 23, and is payment for Field's legal expertise related to property owned by Covilland. The second (HM 43203, dated 1857, April 25) is a bill to Covilland for Field's legal services and clerking fees.

    Clippings chiefly about Cunningham and his writings

    The collection contains correspondence with friends and other writers of Western lore, such as Eugene Manlove Rhodes and his wife, May Louise Davison Purple Rhodes, and to General Thomas Cruse, who was in Arizona during the Indian campaigns and wrote the book, Apache days and after. There are 12 bound volumes and one box containing manuscripts of the works of Cunningham and others, 5 scrapbooks, and 250 photographs of Western figures (many reproduced from the collection of Noah H. Rose of San Antonio, TX).
