Assortment of indentures, contracts, and expense reports relating to the development of Yuba County, California. Includes indentures and contracts for land sales, driving a mule train, the operation of toll bridges (including the Bullards Bar Bridge and one on the North Yuba River), public highway right of way, mining claims (including the Connor and Daily mine in the Cherokee Mining District), and an account of provisions provided to the Yuba County Hospital. Other items include a list of tax payers in Yuba Road District No.6, a report of criminal activity in New York Township, a variety of expense reports and claims submitted to Yuba County, a resolution on water rates in Yuba County, a letter regarding building a wall near the Marysville Courthouse, an expense claim for the 1889 Mechanic's Fair Exhibit in San Francisco, a letter regarding the Marysville Tunnel and Quartz Mining Company, and a letter and map regarding redistricting in the Buckeye County School District.

Riggin/Pettyjohn family papers

About one-half of the correspondence is made up of letters between James C. Riggin and his wife Rebeca Jane Pettyjohn. The other half of the correspondence is made up of letters written by various members of the Pettyjohn family. The letters tell of the journey to California along the Oregon Trail, and discuss, in detail, Fort Kearny; Fort Laramie; Fort Des Moines and Keokuk, Iowa; and Sacramento, and Yuba County, California. The letters also describe life in a California gold mining town including gold discoveries, prices of supplies, and rumors of murders in the area. Two of James C. Riggin's letters are on pictorial lettersheets. The collection also includes one account book, bills, receipts, and canceled checks.
