Primarily portraits created by Don Bachardy of friends and acquaintances, and also including self-portraits, and drawings of Bachardy's partner Christopher Isherwood. There are also a few still lifes, mainly from early in his career. Drawings are in pencil, ink, or pen on paper unless otherwise noted. Most are 29"x23" with some slight variations. In the 1980s, Bachardy began working more with acrylic paint, and by the 1990s and 2000s most of his works were in acrylic. Portrait titles are based on Don Bachardy's notations and often include the date of sitting in some form. Multiple drawings of the same person are usually numbered with Roman numerals. The sitters signed each of their portraits.
