This collection contains three volumes with records of the governance of the southern portion of Alta California from the Mexican Constitution of 1824 through the creation of the Los Angeles Prefecture in 1837 and the conquest by the United States in 1846 to the California State Constitution of 1850. These volumes include alcalde correspondence, 1823; ayuntamiento minutes from 1832; judicial records of civil and criminal cases; records of the Los Angeles prefecture from 1834; register of cattle brands and marks, 1833-52; notarial records; petitions for land; claims for mines; deeds, mortgages, contracts, bankruptcy papers, and wills; inventories of personal and household goods; court-martial papers; censuses; and decrees and proclamations. Microfilm of Joab Collier's honey record book, kept in and around Vernal and Washington, Utah, from April to August 1916. The notebook includes entires on the conditions of local hives and charts showing the number of bees found alive, dead, or "foul."

Microfilm of a record book kept by the Church Historian's Office tracing the early history of Mormon settlement in Utah, also referred to as history of Brigham Young (it may have been kept in Young's name). The volume opens with a section entitled "Early Records of Utah," which covers 1847-1851 and begins with Orson Pratt and Esratus Snow's arrival in Salt Lake City. Subsequent sections are entitled "Incidents in Utah History" (1852-1854) and Utah Historical Incidents (1855-1867). Topics covered include a history of the Mormon Church, history of Mormon settlement in Utah, establishment of political and religious councils, experiences of Church leaders, interactions with local Indians, and colonization missions.
