A collection of 62 miscellaneous pieces primarily relating to the lectures and teachings of Ralph M. Pearson. Items consist of: 4 typescript pages, in outline form, of undated notes entitled "Case Conference Problems in Group Guidance" by Richard D. Allen. Typescript lecture notes, interspersed with manuscript notes, for a series of eight numbered University Extension lectures, dated 1929-1938, primarily relating to modern painting and painters. The first sheet is an assignment sheet for Credit Students. A receipt of payment for Ralph M. Pearson's Design Workshop and typescript letter of confirmation for receipt of payment for the workshop, both dated December 1937 and addressed to Mabel Spofford. A 15-page typescript transcript of a radio interview entitled "What is Modern Art" with Ralph M. Pearson, by Leah Plotkin. The transcript is from WQXR radio station, Federal Theatre, dated December 28, 1937.

A set of five (5) miscellaneous pieces of original artwork (probably) by Mabel Spofford, ca. 1947. Env. 1 is a pencil-on-tracing paper illustration of a view of the globe, with American Red Cross flags protruding from various countries. Below the image is the phrase "Your Red Cross It's For You Are You For It?" Measures 4 x 6 inches. Env. 2 is a pen and ink drawing of a barefoot hiker with his dog, and 3 angels above. The image is signed and dated "M.S. 2.5.47". Measures 7 1/4 in. W x 10 1/2 in. H. Env. 3 is a crayon and watercolor image of a wrapped bouquet of pink and yellow flowers. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H. Env. 4 is an unfinished sketch, in crayon and watercolor (perhaps watercolor crayons) of a flower. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H. Env. 5 is a crayon design. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H.

The first 6 drawings (Env. 45-50) are charcoal drawings of geometric solids; the next 3 (Env. 51-53) are also charcoal drawings, the first two are of a statue face, the third of a bowl; the next 2 (Env. 55-56) are colored chalk drawings, and the last envelope (Env. 57) is a two-sided leaf of ms. notes, in pencil. The fist 5 drawings are signed "E. Barnes." Title supplied by cataloger.

Four newspaper clippings of quotations from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The first clipping (Env. 09) includes a reproduction of a photograph, aerial view, of the Lincoln and Washington Monuments, with quotations from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln printed below the image. The next two clippings (Env. 10 and Env. 11) were cut from the February 12, [date cut off] issue of the Washington Post. They are reproductions of poems about Abraham Lincoln; the first is titled "Poems for your scrapbook. Lincoln. By George Henry Boker." from 'In Praise of Lincoln', published by J.B. Lippincott Co."; the other is titled : "Lincoln (On visiting the Memorial at Washington) by Henry Gillen." The fourth clipping is a 9-line quotation from Abraham Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg." The source of this clipping is unidentified.

The set of 55 posters is housed within 5 large envelopes; there are 23 different posters, with duplicate copies of 9 of the 23. All of the posters contain black and white reproductions of photographs. Accompanying the posters within the first folder is a large piece of brown wrapping paper on which is written in ms.: "Mabel Spofford; from Boston Museum of Fine Arts, received April 7. 1956 art appreciation posters." The posters vary in size, but all are large. What follows is a listing of the contents of each envelope; the title at the top of the poster has been transcribed.
