Two boxed sets of colored pencils manufactured by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company entitled "Aquarello", Assortment No. 1163 and Mongol Thin Lead Colored Indelible Pencils, Assortment No. 741, ca. 1935. Both sets are wash colors; these are colored pencils that were meant to be gone over with a brush dipped in water. The slogan printed on each of the two interior labels reads "Paint with pencils." Each box is hinged box and has a snap closure. Pencils are missing from both sets. Title supplied by cataloger.

Artist's Assortment of Fine Crayons

One boxed set of color pencils entitled Artist's Assortment of Fine Crayons; the subtitle reads: "In 12 Colors, No. 663, Eberhard Faber; The Lead Used in These Crayons is Carefully Prepared from the Finest Pigments," ca. 1906. The box is divided into a top half which slides off and a bottom half upon which is an image of a windmill by a canal. The side reads "Box Pat. May 15, 1906" and in penciled block print "Eberhard." On the reverse of the box is a listing of colors with corresponding numbers. These are: 6629 Black; 6624 Purple; 6625 Blue; 6628 Green, Dark; 6618 Green, Light; 6615 Blue, Light; 6627 Yellow; 6622 Orange; 6620 Pink; 6626 Red; 6617 Crimson; 6623 Brown. Eleven of the original 12 crayon pencils remain--only #6617, Crimson, is missing.

Shipping Pencils
Visual Materials
One boxed set of lead shipping pencils entitled Shipping Pencils, manufactured by Clark Indelible Pencil Co., Northampton, Massachusetts, ca. 1890-1915. The set is comprised of a dozen (2 are missing) pencils, each in a wooden, cylinder-like case bearing a green paper label. Each label reads: "Shipping Pencil. (Clark's pat. Jany. first.) For directing all kinds of merchandise. A substitute for marking brush! Directions: Sponge the place to be marked, with clean water, and write. Manufactured by Clark Indelible Pencil Co., Northampton, Massachusetts." The handle and wood encasing each pencil is made of a darker wood than the slipcase bearing the label. A paper slip is laid into the box, which describes the pencils and their prices.

Prang Paper Colored Pencils

One boxed set of colored pencils entitled Prang Paper Colored Pencils, manufactured by The American Crayon Co., Sandusky, Ohio, ca. 1935. The set consists of 12 colored pencils within a paperboard box (all are present). The pencils are paper-wrapped; they are "sharpened" by unwrapping layers of paper. Slipped into the box is an informational sheet about the pencils.

Dixon’s Eldorado: 'the master drawing pencil'

One boxed set of lead pencils entitled Dixon's Eldorado: 'the master drawing pencil,' manufactured by the Joseph Dixon Crucible Company, Jersey City, New Jersey, ca. 1940. The set was issued with one dozen pencils; one is missing from this set. The pencils are varying degrees of hardness. The box is blue with gold lettering; the outer box serves as a slipcase for the inner box.
