Rare Books
Medieval didactic poem in hexameter verse, claiming to be the creation of the medical school at Salerno, Italy, and promoting a healthy life through a regimen of adequate sleep, a moderate diet, and a peaceful mind. The Regimen also includes information on wine, vegetables, herbs, and meats, their therapeutic uses, which to eat, and which to avoid. The Regimen sanitatis Salernitatum and accompanying commentary are often wrongly ascribed to Arnoldus de Villa Nova. Corrected imprint from BM 15th cent. which states that this is a Venetian reprint of the 1491 Strassburg edition (Goff R-73), with expanded title. Chancery quarto, with paper measuring 20.4 x 15 cm. Text in one column. Signatures: a-h⁸. Binding: sheepskin; rebacked.
