Author's wife, Francisca Plunkett, was born in 1852 in San Francisco. Grew up in Bay Area, becoming teacher. Married Rev. George B. Taylor, a temperance lecturer. Attended National School of Oratory in Philadelphia, becoming an elocutionist. Traveled U.S. giving readings and aiding husband. Returned to California where eventually divorced husband. In 1880, married J.A. Johnson
