Description: Group of 18 pamphlets directed to children and young readers published by Mahlon Day and sold at his New Juvenille Book-store on 374 Pearl Street, New York. The pamphlets range in topic from religious, moral tales, natural history, ethnology, folk tales and nursery rhymes. Includes both prose and poetry. The majority of the publications have Mahlon Day's imprint and are dated 1834. Most of the pamphlets are illustrated throughout with woodcuts. The pamphlets are bound together in a single volume with striped fabric cloth covered boards. Stitching is loose. Many of the pamphlet pages are damaged with significant loss of text. Several of the titles have been cataloged separately and may be searched in the catalog.

Volumes 1-2 have spine title: Miuscellaneous 19th-century pamphlets; Volumes 3 has spine title: Encyclopaedias - 19th century and volume 4 has spine title: Printing. Group of 22 exhibition pamphlets from the Klingspore-Museum in Offenbach. The pamphlets are still in their individual mailing envelopes addressed to Graydon Spalding at the Huntington Library and are stamped with dates from October 10. 1968 to Dec. 23, 1974.

Maynard L. Parker negatives, photographs, and other material consists of 57,893 black-and-white negatives, color transparencies, black-and-white prints, and color prints; 39 presentation albums; and 17 boxes of office records, 1930-1974. Created primarily by Maynard Parker, the archive documents the residential and non-residential work of architects, interior designers, landscape architects, artists, builders, real estate developers, and clients associated with these fields, foremost among them the magazine House Beautiful. Also included in the collection are photographs taken by other individuals, such as architect Cliff May and Parker's assistant, Charles Yerkes.

Collection of books, pamphlets and periodicals relating to international languages, primarly Volapük, (bulk 1831-1889)

Rare Books

Collection of books and pamphlets relating to international or universal languages. The bulk of the collection focuses on the Volapük language. Volapük is a constructed langauge created between 1879 and 1880 by Johann Martin Schleyer with grammatical roots in European languages and vocabulary drawn from English, German and French. Other major languages represented: Spelin, Esperanto and Interlingua. The gift originally consisted of 126 titles and a type-written list is included in the first box. The titles apparently were later arranged alphabetically by author, numbered and placed in magazine-file boxes. The current number of titles is 88 in 9 boxes. The bulk of materials were published between 1831 and 1889 in Germany, France, Austria, Spain and elsewhere in Europe as well as the United States. No. 88 appears to have been added later and is Gode, Alexander. Interlingua at sight. New York, 1954; provenance is unknown.

One painting book entitled Painting Plays for Rainy Days, And Easy Drawing Lessons, by J. H. Willard, published by Thompson & Thomas, Chicago, 1902. [Note: the imprint information for this record is taken from the title on the title page, which differs slightly from the cover.] The book is approximately 200 unnumbered pages in length. The front cover is a chromolithograph of three kittens playing with a paint box and brushes. The back cover is not illustrated. The illustrations inside the book are a combination of chromolithographs and outline images for painting. Some of the pictures are accompanied by rhymes or instructional text. The images seem to progress throughout the book from simple (drawing straight lines) to increasingly more complex (patterns and designs). These include scenes of children at play, patterns, designs, fruits and vegetables, animals and buildings. Also included are lessons in perspective and proportion. Many of the images have been colored with watercolor .
