Contains the printer's proofs (folded sheets, printed on one side only) for most of the material printed by Saul & Lillian Marks at the Plantin Press, Los Angeles (i.e. title page, foreword, Everson introduction, and colophon page; the limitation/presentation leaf and half-title are lacking). The proofs are inscribed by Everson at the end of his introduction: "For Robert & Dorothy Hawley with affection, Brother Antoninus, Sept. 27, 1968." The colophon page has "No copies for sale" written in, then crossed out. Laid in: A typed, signed letter from Everson (as "Antoninus") to Robert Hawley presenting the proofs and explaining that he passed them on to his superior for censorship but received no response so that the book was published without official sanction. The proofs were forgotten until a friar discovered them in 1968 and returned them to Everson. Also included are trial printing sheets for the Novum Psalterium PII XII, comprising 7 folio sheets (folded) on Tovil paper. These include the imprimatur, title, dedication, first section title, and pages 1-10 (Psalms 1-9), 15-16 (Psalms 12-13), 53-55 (Psalms 39-400 and 61-64 (Psalms 43-44). The published copies do not contain page 9-10/15-16 (Psalms 8, 9, 12 and 13), so these trial sheets may represent the only extant printings of those pages. The sheets are enclosed in a cover sheet inscribed by Everson: "To Bob Hawley the seven sheets of the Novum Psalterium Pii XII, affectionately given Dec. 13, 1974, the fifth anniversary of the Mendocino nuptials which he so generously assisted, Bill Everson."

Place of imprint and printer information from colophon; full colophon reads: Fue impressa e[n] la ciudad de Mexico e[n] casa de Pedro Ocharte por ma[n]dado del yllustrissimo y reuere[n]dissimo señor don fray Alonso de Montufar, arçobispo de la dicha ciudad. Meritissimo. Undated. Date range based on the date of the 2nd bull (1564) and the death of Montúfar (1565). Icazbalceta proposed a date of 1565 to coincide with the 2nd Council of Mexico, convened to deal with matters from the Council of Trent. Signatures: [cross]⁸ chi⁴(-chi4). Leaf [cross]3 missigned as [cross].
