Typewritten manuscript examining "how the basic claim of Mormonism evolved and how it can be tested." The essay opens with a general introduction to logical thinking, and then applies these theories to religion. It continues with an examination of the Book of Mormon, a brief overview of the Doctrine and Covenants, and a historical look at the Mormon exodus to Ohio and subsequent move to and flight from Missouri, followed by the settlement of Nauvoo and move to Utah. It also briefly covers the Pearl of Great Price, the Book of Moses, and the Book of Abraham. Includes original photographs.

The typescript entitled "Preface to the writings of Kumen Jones" is a mixture of history, diary entries, reminiscences, and religious philosophy, covering the years from approximately 1878-1937. It is divided into several sections, and includes a history of the San Juan Expedition from 1878-1880; a description of Jones' transformation from cattle herder to missionary; a typed copy of an agreement for an Indian school in Bluff, Utah; a tribute to Indian agent and superintendent W.H. Shelton; descriptions of dealings with Navajos in Bluff; a brief history of the Norman conquest in Wales; an account of the terminal illness of "Aunt Mary" (Jones' wife Mary Nielson Jones); description of a trip from Salt Lake City to Mesa in 1935; Jones' funeral wishes; a record with descriptions of Jones' immediate family; and a brief description of Jones' stay in Los Angeles in 1932.

Collection of papers relating to the Society of Friends in Ohio (Orthodox). Included are communications and epistles received by Ohio Yearly Meeting from the Yearly Meetings in Philadelphia, New York, and Maryland; minutes and other records of the Stillwater, Short Creek, and Redstone Monthly and Quarterly Meetings, marriage announcements, certificates, and other miscellaneous records, including a proposal submitted to the Yearly meeting for establishing labor schools, approximately 1840. The collection also contains some personal letters discussing religious practice, theology, history, child rearing, etc. Also included are: an epistle from Women Friends Meeting in London to Women Friends Yearly Meeting in Philadelphia, 1789, two addresses to a "Spiritual Improvement Society", by Edward Hoops, 1840, two short memoirs of the underground railroad and Quaker abolitionists, and a copy of August Diamond's Levi Coffin, the friend of the slave, published for the Friends' Tract Association (London : Headley Bros.; New York : Friends' Book & Tract Committee), approximately 1915. The collection also contains a bound manuscript "Memoirs of Rachel E. Paterson, 1828-1869." Rachel E. Paterson (born 1810) was a Quaker preacher, daughter of James Edgerton and Anne Hall, members of Stillwater Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). The manuscript consists of copies of letters that she exchanged with her family.

This collection consists of an autograph album containing handwritten notes, letters, poems, and drawings by approximately 200 friends and acquaintances of American author Charles Warren Stoddard, including leading American literary figures, journalists, poets, critics, politicians, and actors of the late 19th century. Among the many notable contributors are Samuel Clemens, Bret Harte, and Joaquin Miller. The earliest item in the book is an 1863 dedication by Thomas Starr King, and continues with contributions primarily from members of San Francisco literary society beginning in the mid-to-late 1860s through the late 1890s, as well as from friends in other locales where Stoddard lived or traveled including Louisville, Kentucky; Washington, D.C.; Massachusetts; New York; and Hawaii. A letter from L.C. Bayles (page 23) introduces lines of verse with the note "in accordance with your request," reflecting Stoddard's curation of the album as a compendium of verse and personal sentiments tailored towards friendships and literary musings. The volume includes two photographs of groups of men and women, captioned, "Riverdale, N.Y., July 4th 1890" (page 116).
