Visual Materials
The collection consists of 6202 black-and-white and color photographs, pen and ink drawings, and postcards, 1412 black-and-white and color negatives, 2606 black-and-white and color slides, and ephemeral materials, 1898-1982 (bulk 1920s-1930s) collected by the Automobile Club of Southern California. They form a general photographic reference collection as well as a broad visual survey of topics of interest to California motorists. Included are images of sites in North and Central America (with an emphasis on California), Europe, the Pacific Islands, and portraits, as well as images related to other subjects of interest to the Club's membership. Many of the images were published as illustrations for articles in the Club's first member magazine, Touring Topics. A large portion of the photographs were taken by authors of articles that appeared in Touring Topics; others were commissioned by the Club; and others appear to have been sent to the Club. Photographers (and authors) include, but are not limited to, Ansel Adams, Fred Archer, Viroque Baker, George Hugh Banning, Adelbert Bartlett, Virginia S. Bartlett, Andrew R. Boone, Julius Cindrich, Norman Clyde, Will Connell, Loyd Cooper, Imogen Cunningham, Asahel Curtis, Edward Sheriff Curtis, Fred Dapprich, E.H. Davis, E.E. The Southern California Regional Planning Collection was donated by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Department, George Marr, Edward Holden, Glen Blossom, Simon Eisner, and Glenda Hamilton to the Huntington Library in 1997. The Southern California Regional Planning Collection is organized into two series: 1) Published Planning Reports Series (organized by individual item numbers) 2) Internal Documents Series (organized by box and folder numbers).The Published Planning Reports Series contains 1,913 individual items that were generated by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission, Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, and other planning agencies and organizations in Southern California. Type of reports include annual reports, area study, comprehensive planning reports, census, conference papers, general plans, guides to zoning and subdivision, planning proposals, traffic and environmental surveys, zoning ordinance, etc. The date range of this series is 1909 to 2003.The Internal Documents Series contains approximately 913 items in 14 Hollinger boxes. Similar to the Published Planning Reports Series, the majority of the documents were generated by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission and Department of Regional Planning, followed by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning. Type of documents include census reports, conference papers, maps, memorandums, minutes, photos, plans, reports, speeches, summaries, etc. The date range is 1924 to 2000.

Collection of maps surveyed for the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office between 1860 and 1897. The maps primarily focus on excavations, improvements, and expansions of roads throughout Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties, with geographic coverage ranging from Malibu to Pomona and Newhall to San Juan Capistrano. Most of the maps show boundary lines of the various Ranchos existent throughout these counties, and many also include buildings, railroads, telegraph lines, land use, relief, and elements of the natural landscape such as canyons and rivers. Also included are maps showing the San Gabriel Mission, San Juan Capistrano Mission, and an elevation of the Los Angeles County court house. Some of the Ranchos depicted include San Antonio, Azusa, San Jose, Los Nogales, San Pedro, San Joaquin, San Rafael, Centinela, La Puente, Sausal Redondo, La Ballona, Rodeo-de-las-Aguas, Cienega, San Pasqual, and San Francisquito. Property shown includes that of Elias 'Lucky' Baldwin, Pio Pico, and Abel Stearns. The maps were originally housed in 16 bound volumes.

The Southern California Edison Records consist of materials created, maintained, and collected by the company. The Southern California Edison Records contain books, catalogs, correspondence, journals, ledgers, log books, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photographs, press releases, reports, scrapbooks, and other materials documenting the history of the Southern California Edison (SCE) Company. The records cover the years 1848 to 1989 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1911 to 1965. The material is largely textual with the exception of a few non-paper items scattered throughout.
