The cover title is Drawing and Tracing Book: Children at Play. This book is comprised of 8 plates of lithograph images. There are no sheets of tracing paper in this volume. The publisher's statement is printed in the lower right-hand corner of the front cover: "Copyright 1898, McLoughlin Bros., New York." The back cover reads: "First Lessons in Drawing for Children", with a "No. 81" printed below it. Below these words is a floral decoration. The chromolithograph illustration on the front cover is of a young child, wearing a white cap and a white dress, holding a wooden spoon. The illustrations inside have been painted in with watercolors. "Marion Terry" is written in ms., in crayon, within the book.

    A collection of children's books assembled from various unknown provenances. A group appears to have been assembled in the 1930s as souvenirs from an around the world journey as they are in various languages and have "Greetings from ... " various countries written on the covers and "For little Norma" on title pages. The publication dates range from 1830s to 1930s. The bulk of the collection published in the United States.

    One drawing/painting book, ca. 1905, entitled Little Folks' Painting and Drawing Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York. This book is 32 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of chromolithograph and black and white lithographs in outline form for coloring. The front cover features an image of two children wrapping a gift box. "0701, McLoughlin Bros. N.Y." is printed in the lower left-hand corner beneath the image. The back cover is not illustrated, but the paper is decorated in a simple pattern. "Directions" are printed on the front pastedown, and the title page is illustrated with a black and white image of a boy painting a fence. All of the illustrations are of animals; some have been colored. A ms. inscription in ink is on the title page. "2.-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the title page.

    One painting book entitled Home Painting Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Massachusetts, ca. 1930. The book is comprised of a series of double illustrations; for each set, one image is printed in color, the other is printed in outline form. The outline image was meant to be painted. On the front cover is a color illustration of two children picking flowers. A collage of colored chalk against a black background borders the principal illustration. "McLoughlin Bros. Inc., Springfield, Mass." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover; "2044, made in USA" is printed in the right-hand corner. The back cover is blank. The endpapers are illustrated with geometric designs. Directions for using the book and mixing paint colors are on the recto of the first page. The illustrations are printed on one side of each leaf. Some of the images within the book include scenes of playing children, animals, flowers and food. Few of the images have been filled in.

    A one volume guest book, an autograph album, three slides, one piece of correspondence and a college diary are the only items in the collection that specifically pertain to Mary Eleanor Bissell. The remainder of the collection concerns her relatives, the most prominent of whom are her great-grandparents, Eleanor Mills Bissell and Thomas Bissell (fl. 1796-1848). The collection contains around forty pieces of correspondence relating to her great-grandparents as well as over a hundred items relating to the Bissell family business. The business papers include court summons, bills of sale, receipts, promissory notes, quit-claim deeds and an account book, all dated between 1738 and 1836. The collection also contains documents on the genealogy of the Bissell family in Windsor as well as eighteen photographs of family and friends.

    One drawing/painting book, ca. 1910, entitled Drawing and Painting Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Massachusetts. This book is 24 unnumbered pages in length, and contains illustrations for coloring. The front cover is a chromolithograph illustration of a girl reading a book while imaginary fairies and butterflies fly around her. "Made in U.S.A. McLoughlin Bros. Inc., Springfield, Mass." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The back cover is a chromolithograph image of a jar of paintbrushes and several jars of paint. The title page features an illustration of young Dutch children and descriptive text beneath the title: "A Drawing and Painting Book designed according to the best art methods of starting with simple design and color and progressing to more advanced subjects." Some of the illustrations are in pairs, with one printed in color and the other in outline form, which was meant for coloring. Included are images of people, buildings and animals. Some of the images have been colored with crayon or watercolor.
