California is shown as a peninsula, Cape Mendocin is located at latitude 54, and the Anian country is in the position of Alaska. In the south Terra Austrailis is represented as an enormous continent stretching around the world from New Guinea to Java. It also locates New Francia, with a city called Canada." Circles in each corner have additional quotes from Cicero and Seneca. This is the third plate, first bound into Theatrum in 1592 per Shirley. Prime meridian: Ferro. Relief: pictorial. Projection: Pseudocylindrical. Watermark: Crossed arrows. Printing Process: Copper engraving. References: Shirley 158; Wagner 147; Van den Broecke 3. Verso Text: Orbis Terrarum; Latin text.
