John F. Duling Papers
Manuscripts
The collection consists primarily of mining charts, maps, reports, surveys, and township plats for mines in Arizona, California, Canada, Mexico, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico but also contains surveys for real estate developments in southern California. Additionally, the collection contains photographs of various mines and mining areas (which are located in the folders for their respective counties), a number of personal photographs, and various ephemera. Within each box, the folders are arranged alphabetically by county (or by neighborhood/area in the case of the California Land Subdivision folders). Individual mining companies, mining claims, subdivisions, and neighborhoods are listed on the folders but are not listed in finding aid unless there are multiple folders for a specific county. Several folders contain state maps or miscellaneous surveys and engineering drawings that are not particular to specific counties; these folders are labeled by state and are placed after the specific county folders. Subject headings were not included in boxes that would have had the same heading for every folder but were included in boxes with multiple subjects (such as the California Land Subdivisions boxes).

1931. Preliminary legal action by John Leo Stack against Harry F. Sinclair. 3 items
Manuscripts
The chronologically-arranged financial documents include general business, accounting, financial statements, deposited checks/vouchers, etc. of the Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation, members of the Sinclair family, and their associates. A separate subseries is available for audits. The chronologically-arranged securities include stocks, bonds, receipts, certificates, promissory notes, etc. of the Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation, Sinclair family, and their associates. Brokerage Firm Transactions constitute a subseries of securities and are grouped alphabetically by firm name. The chronologically-arranged legal records contain contractual agreements, affidavits, and other information related to legal claims against Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation and/or Harry F. Sinclair. In addition to general legal records, this series contains two subseries: the first consists of documents related to Teapot Dome, including leases, agreements, and reports and the second contains tax records of Sinclair family and associates, which were submitted as evidence in the trials against Sinclair. Chronologically-arranged correspondence to and from Harry F. Sinclair as well as correspondence among his business associates constitute the fourth series. When possible, the business correspondence was grouped with relevant financial and legal documents. The chronologically-arranged ephemera contain newspaper clippings, poems, etc. Noteworthy clippings include an article entitled "Where are these bonds?" from the St. Louis Post Dispatch (1928), containing the serial numbers of the bonds involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal as well as Harry F. Sinclair's obituary printed in the Daily Racing Form (Nov. 13, 1956). Lastly, the chronologically-arranged oversize documents contain financial and tax-related records. The four volumes in the oversize series are extremely fragile. Access to one of these items, "H.F. Sinclair Cash Disbursements" (1916-1918), may be restricted. Please consult the Manuscripts Department for more information.
