Diana
1 of 7
Although the subject of Diana is the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt, MacMonnies naturalistic depiction of her form and the dynamic movement of the figure, as Diana propels herself forward after shooting an arrow, mark a shift away from the static Neoclassicism of much 19th-century American sculpture. Diana's face and figure are based on a professional model, and the sculpture's arms are those of his wife, Mary.
