A Fine Evening after Rain
Linnell considered this scene of bucolic figures and a flock of sheep in the Welsh countryside one of his best subjects. He based it on a sketch he made during a tour through northern Wales in 1813. Responding to the local topography, light, and atmosphere, Linnell faithfully observed the majesty of the expansive, mountainous terrain while also recording details such as the pools of rainwater collected in the pitted road.
