Morning

1 of 8

Morning is one of a series of sculptures that Manship originally created on a monumental scale for the 1939 New York World's Fair. The streamlined forms of the figures are typical of Manship's work after he returned to New York from Europe in 1927. Manship represented the times of day through allegory. Morning includes a trumpeter blowing and a cock crowing to symbolize dawn. The central male figure arises sleepily.
