- Description
- Pilgrim three-slat chair, black; probably Connecticut shoreline (New London County) or Long Island. This wide chair, with well-turned lemon finials and dramatically canted turned arms, appears to be pre-curser to the famous mushroom armchairs of New London County of 1740. Note the finely conceived subtle turnings on the back posts, front legs, and at teach end of the arms. Also the mushroom handholds are large and well conceived. The width of the chair connotes its early date.
