Jane Gale married her cousin, William Gale in 1776 and both adopted the additional surname of Braddyll the same year. William was a politician and personal assistant (Groom of the Bedchamber) to King George III. Joshua Reynolds painted several portraits of the family and its members. Nollekens' sculpted image shows Jane with antique hairstyle and drapery, emphasizing her sophistication.
