One of 148 oil sketches made by Albert Operti, a fellow of the Geographical Society, official artist to Commander Peary's expedition in 1896. Painted on the spot by Mr. Operti, who spent two years in the frozen north. Every picture is historically correct. Commander Peary stated, "the most accurate and effective pictures that I have ever seen of that region."
