Lord Ligonier, a distinguished soldier, is shown as the embodiment of military bravado, his left hand on his hip and loosely holding his sword. While Ligonier rests his right arm confidently on the back of his horse, the horse looks directly at the viewer in a remarkably engaging manner, almost upstaging his owner.
