Provides instructions and guidance for various tasks at the Hermitage including sales of cotton crop and stock, use of stud colt, and the need for housing for fowl and stables. Jackson also mentions the illness of Sampson, an enslaved laborer at the Hermitage, and others (text damaged). Discusses financial details on purchase of land from Alexander. Jackson expresses his gratification that the tomb for Rachel Jackson is complete. Item is slightly damaged, some text missing.

Jackson reports on the current state of military affairs including conduct, desertion and apathy of the volunteer infantry and of contractors; the state of supplies, particularly beef and pork; his inability to advance. He also sends instructions regarding Lyncoya, a Creek Indian infant orphaned during the Creek War and adopted by Jackson in November 1813.
