Description: Consists of six photographs taken of a one story frame house in Santa Barbara, an unnamed lake (as an advertisement for the Hemet Land & Water Company for fruit lands and lots), Mission San Gabriel, John Muir, a view of Pasadena, the San Gabriel Valley, and the Mount Lowe Observatory from Mount Lowe, and an unidentified pioneer with his burro and dog. Identified photographers include L. N. Cook, C. B. Waite, and E. S. Frost & Son.

Wilson's Peak, Mount Lowe, and other California photographs

A group of miscellaneous photographs including views of the Mount Lowe railway, cabins, and a cabin and donkey at Wilson's Peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. Also: Ladies concert band in Crescent City (1910); Hotel Palomares, Pomona (1890s); First Methodist Church, Pomona (1888?); and a copy photograph of a prospecting party with miner's tools in an unidentified town.

Photograph album of the Pacific Electric Railway, Southern California

Visual Materials

A presentation album with 77 photographs taken along the Pacific Electric Railway lines in Southern California, especially in Los Angeles County and Orange County. The images primarily document street scenes, train stations, and local attractions along the railway lines. Includes the Whittier Line; La Habra Line; Santa Ana-Huntington Beach line; Glendale Line; Pasadena Line; Monrovia Line; Glendora; Covina Line; El Monte; San Gabriel Line; Sierra Madre Line; and many of the Mount Lowe Division. Some of the locations shown are Echo Mountain and Mount Lowe, Rubio Canyon, Covina, and Sierra Madre. Local businesses and attractions that are featured include Echo Park in Los Angeles; the Shorb Ranch in San Marino; Cawston Ostrich Farm in South Pasadena; Casa Verdugo in Glendale; and Busch Gardens in Pasadena. More than a third of the images were taken in and around Mount Lowe, showing the observatory, inclined railway, circular bridge, granite gate, search light, and Ye Alpine Tavern. Two photographs show Mount Lowe with snow and another shows the smoke of a brush fire. There is a view of the moon taken through the Mount Lowe telescope, and a photograph of Dr. Edgar Lucien Larkin, director of the Mount Lowe Observatory, in the observatory room. There are several photographs of orange groves taken from various locations along the railway.

Identified photographers include Carleton Watkins and the Garden City Foto Company.

The collection of mounted albumen California Mission views include seventy various interior and exterior images of the Royal Presidio Chapel of San Carlos de Barromeo de Monterey, Mission Santa Barbara, Mission San Carlos de Barromeo de Carmelo, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, San Fernando Rey de España, San Gabriel Arcángel, Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission San Luis Rey, Mission San Miguel Arcángel, Mission San Antonio Padua, and the Mission San Antonio de Pala. The majority of the collection's annotations note "Hardy, 1945" which may refer to the Grahame Hardy collection acquired in 1945. Several images credit Waite as the photographer.
